Musical portraits ©jimallen
Legends abound, as I have been so privileged to photograph a few of the worlds leading musicians and singers, authors , and many kinds of artists. Musicians are now a breed unto themselves as recording contracts are left in the dust. One needs to be known as a diva or a Michael Jackson to get the bigger more lucrative contracts. The rest ilike the song" Hit the road Jack.. I have only been able to touch a few of the great ones and I feel so lucky and not in terms of money. More in the area of honor to do this or that. I spent some time with a few and got to know them. For the most mucisions remain humble. Some are not so nice and like anything it all balances out. I am going to present a few in this portfolio and hope that it can give you some idea of how fortunate I have been in a long career of enjoying my passion. I hope it gives you something like a spark that can encourage a career of taking photos. Some say that photography is over and I say thats a hunk of bull. Its just beginning and do not be fooled because a camera in an amateurs hand is not necessarily the answer to greatness. Take the recent spate of photos featuring TTC tickets vendors sleeping. This was a display of crudeness and bad taste in snapping by amateurs who did not balance the idea first and so what if its a split second, it was tateless and had nothing to do with the important issues or complaints about the TTC.. Greatness is in front of the photographer if he or she is lucky enough to survive the competitive framework of a modern day communications business.
